The Flow
Second Saturdays is proud to feature for this June benefit concert, "The Flow," an original rock band based in Corvallis. The Flow’s original music blends the lyricism and complexity of acoustic folk with the power and passion of rock. Rita Brown (vocals, keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars) and Bill Smyth (lead guitar) performed as a folk duo for several years and recorded two successful indie cds. Don Thorp (vocals and drums) and Mike Grattan (bass) were half of the acclaimed hard rock band Knockout John.
While Smyth takes on most of the writing, it’s a collaborative process and everybody contributes. Members of The Flow have played with popular local acts such as Fate 55, Crooked Kate, Mad Dogs and No Englishmen, 49 Fingers, and the Neal Gladstone Band. The Flow’s debut performance was at a Second Saturdays concert in January 2008 and the venue remains to this day one of their favorites. The band's first CD, “All Things Flow”, was released in April. You will be thoroughly immersed in some of the best local music this town has to offer.

The Beneficiary: Palestinian Action Group
PAG was formed in Corvallis, Oregon in January 2009 as a response to the December, 2008 Israeli military incursion into Gaza and the killing of 1,400 innocent Palestinians – a third of whom were children - trapped within the Israeli imposed walls with no way to escape.
PAG works for justice, equal rights, and the restoration of the Palestinian homeland. The group's mission is to highlight, through educational events, political action, and fundraising activities, the injustices and suffering that for 60 years have been inflicted upon the Palestinian people.
Palestine Action Group focuses much of its energy on alleviating the suffering of Palestinian youth, particularly those who lived through what has been referred to as nothing less than a "massacre." According to research by the Gaza Community Center for Mental Health, "three quarters of children living in Gaza suffer from anxiety and nightmares. Many suffer flashbacks of the violent events which occurred just a little over five months ago. "55 percent of kids in 'hot' areas such as Rafah have acute post-traumatic stress disorder."
In February of this year, PAG raised over $2,000 for MECA (Middle East Children's Alliance), a U.S non-profit organization that collected and brought into Gaza over 12 tons of supplies for the children, including medicine, cereal, dried milk, wheelchairs, and clothing.
Also in March of this year, in memory of the Gaza dead, PAG erected a "Mourning Tent" on the OSU campus. At the same time, the group held a memorial for Rachel Corrie, who in 2003 was killed by an Israeli soldier driving a Caterpillar bulldozer as she attempted to stop the demolition of the home of her friend, a Palestinian doctor.
