The Bush Pilots
The Bush Pilots are a bluegrass-style trio that plays their original songs and add a variety of interpretations of other tunes. Their unique style is difficult to place into a single category. Call it what you will, newgrass, jazzgrass, or bluegrass with a twist—no matter what you call it, Bush Pilots music will put a smile on your face and have you tapping your foot in no time! Carefully structured harmonies flow on top of interesting musical arrangements. The Bush Pilots’ up-tempo, driving repertoire is sprinkled with just enough soulful ballads to let you catch your breath before they launch into another wave of dynamic, energetic tunes.

Shayma and Her Three Children
The family has been living in Corvallis since 2008. They are one of the few Iraqi refugee families permitted to settle in the US . The family is doing its best from day to day, adjusting to a new home and an unfamiliar culture, having no family and few friends to rely upon. If you can imagine suddenly and desperately having to flee your beloved home and country, having no money and very few personal belongings along with you, you'll get a sense of what this family is dealing with. It is heartening to know that the children and Mom are all doing well in schools this year. Shayma studies English at LBCC (ESOL) and the children are students at Wilson Elementary and Bates Hall Head Start. The family also participates in activities at the Corvallis Multi-Cultural Literacy Center. Although members of the First United Methodist Church have been assisting the Hussein family and the family does receive some financial support from the state (our tax dollars for a good cause!), it’s barely enough. There are still so many unmet needs. The funds we raise will hopefully go a long way to insure that the children are able to enjoy a few of Corvallis ' excellent summer activities through Parks and Rec, the Environmental Center day camps, and other art and nature programs. What a wonderful opportunity to show Shayma Hussein’s family that we do care.
