The November event will support Josh Hough
The Second Saturdays Concert team is proud to announce Joshua Hough as our November beneficiary. Josh is a volunteer working with the Christian Peacemakers Team (CPT) in the South Hebron Hills of the West Bank, where Palestinian children are regularly harassed by settlers, both physically and verbally, on their way to and from their school. With video cameras in hand, Josh and his team members walk with the children, documenting, thus minimizing, these encounters. They also accompany local shepherds, olive orchardists and farmers, who are frequently harassed and assaulted as they go about their work - their livelihood - in the South Hebron Hills. As an expert designer and builder of web pages, Josh also volunteers his services to Palestinians who want to “get wired” to the international community. He once had a cubicle job in the states but gave it up to work with CPT. Here’s an example of someone with a commitment to bring people together to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
“Auda” – Traditional Arabic music, characterized by intricately entwined melody and rhythm

All members of “Auda” are students at OSU and include:
Singer and poet, Shady Athamneh - Shady was born in Jerusalem and has lived in the US for the past 17 years. He is the organizer of the local Poetry Slam here in Corvallis and in addition to singing, Shady will perform a selection of his poetry.
Seif Bakri plays the Darbuka drum, a traditional Arabic hand drum. Seif is from Tunisia and has been in Oregon since classes began this year. Before coming to OSU, where he is on scholarship, Seif was an exchange student in West Virginia.
Hashem Hadi plays the guitar and sings. His family is Palestinian but for the past seven years they’ve been living in Jordan as refugees.
Ahava Shalom (Hebrew for Love, Peace) – Traditional Jewish Folk Music

Bamboo flute and mandolin musician Amy Becker and her back up musicians will play traditional Jewish music. Percussionist, Dan Gilman, will accompany Amy on various hand drums. In addition to their regular repertoire, the group plans to bring an easy to learn song or two and will invite the audience to join with them in song.
The Second Saturdays Benefit Concert Series is sponsored by Corvallis Alternatives to War (www.alt2war.org), Chapter 132 of Veterans for Peace, and the Troubadour Music Center
